Betty's Sugar Cookies

Valentine's Day has become a bittersweet day for me. My paternal grandmother passed away on Valentine's Day one year ago, so while we celebrate our loved ones who are still here, I am also celebrating my loved one who is not. My grandma Jeannette was a remarkable woman. She was not afraid to fight for what she believed in, she loved fiercely and she worked hard. She also loved to travel and she never met a stranger that she couldn't turn into a friend. She was finally freed from her body that held her prisoner for too long mercifully before she would have had to be isolated due to the pandemic.

She has been missed, but I am reminded of her often. A few of the things that remind me of her are gathering with my family, reading a great book, eating ice cream, and making these cookies that were introduced to my mom by her. The recipe came from my grandma's friend's mother named Betty. They are my favorite sugar cookies and we make them every Valentine's Day, but I make them a lot more often than that too.

The song in the video was one of Grandma's favorites, one of mine too. I think of her when I hear it. For a printable version of the recipe, click the link below. From my family to yours, I hope you enjoy this little treat!
